I bought a wonderful book called "sandcastles made simple" by Ms Sandy feet a few months ago, and today we finally trialed some of the techniques.
Damien had cut the bottom off a few buckets and a garbage bin so we could pour water in and easily compact the filled bucket before lifting it off and carving the castle. This was made using a medium bucket. It is not much, but it is a start.
There was some fairly serious evidence of waves eating the dunes recently (we are at sea level behind the dunes a couple of streets back). I had to instruct my girls not to go near the dunes because some of them had "overhang" and looked ready to collapse.
Leila had fun in the seaweed piles: it was really wet and quick sandy underneath. Bethany made Hannah into a mermaid. It is nice that the weather is starting to warm up, and Damien went for a run along the beach. His ankle still swells up after running.
