I like making things out of felt, I've enjoyed it since I was a child, and have been looking forward to teaching my girls how to sew. I recently made a whole heap of finger puppets for singing time: the birds and flowers are great for the "in the leafy tree tops" song: they say "good morning" and "how do you do" to each other, and are perfect for little toddler fingers. My big girls weren't very interested in sewing them, although they did both make a small effort to help.
We also use the puppet birds for the "2 little Dickie birds" and the "met in a lane" song from playschool. Lots of fun, and good for the imagination.
Speaking of imagination, Bethany made her own little birdhouse out of a cardboard box a couple of weeks ago, and talked endlessly about an imaginary bird. The house has a perch, a little basket and a food tray attached (with paper food in it). Apparently the painted tissue at the top is just for decoration.
I made Bethany her very own felt puppet bird, so now there is a little yellow felt canary called Samantha living in the little bird house above Bethany's bed. Beth has even written to the Easter Bunny to ask if Samantha could get her own eggs delivered on Easter Sunday.
Leila had to have her own birds too of course. Last time I checked, they were all having a "sleep over" at Samantha's house. I bet that they'll want chocolate eggs too.

I can just imagine the reactions of finding little easter eggs in the bird house!!
