Last week I felt rather cross while I tried to listen to the Sunday talks as my children bounced on and off the seats like yo-yos, fought over the coloured pens, dropped bits and pieces of their activity stuff all over the floor and played tease-your-sister, poke-your-sister, get-your-sister-in-trouble.
While sitting there feeling thoroughly unsuccessful, and more than a little embarrassed I had a brainwave: The Sunday quilt.
It has colours for each person (big girls separated) so there is better personal space. The pockets hold individual sets of coloured pens, a clip board (Hannah's is A5 so if fits on her lap) paper, colouring in books and a few select toys. I love how I don't have to rummage through an overly full bag to find individual activity resources: everything in the pockets was pre-packed and folded up along with the quilt. The whole thing was just unfolded ready for action as we sat down on our pew. It is like having four Sunday bags, but no-one trips over them getting in and out of the aisle, and it's a lot easier to carry. As an added bonus, I can now easily find my own stuff in the Sunday tote bag, because it is practically empty.
I was very happy with the difference my creation made this morning. I was pretty tired today, because I only started it last night, and finished at about 1am. Even though I didn't technically have enough time to put it together properly, and the whole thing is very messy and very rushed it is so FUNCTIONAL that I just don't care about it not being perfect.
The backing fabric is pre-quilted with a poyester filling, cos I am a momma of little time (I still haven't finished those sequins for example).
I did the binding with purchased bias strips and a binding foot. The thread doesn't match, and it is rather sloppy, but it is good enough for me!

looks great, well done
What a fantastic idea. You never cease to amaze me with the way you tackle these ticky moments in life, I love it. Now that you are always on time, thanks to your new music routine, you'll have plenty of time at the beginning of Sacrament to unfold it all and get the girls settled. Not to mention the extra warmth and comfort during those winter months. xxLiz
