The Red words, and Knuffle Bunny
Leila has learned all her Red words!
Her primary school uses the "magic words" system, focusing on the most frequently used words, and giving out certificates as they are learned. Leila is very exited about her words, and loves to find them hiding in text all around her. We are very proud.
Speaking of words, I have to make mention of the wonderful book we borrowed from the Library recently:
When I read it with Mum (Granny) we got totally giggly and just about cried laughing at the incredibly expressive pictures. The kids think it is hysterical too. It is about a pre-verbal toddler/baby who accidentally leaves her bunny at the laundromat, and anyone interested in early childhood would absolutely love it.
Library books might seem to be a strange thing to blog about, but I intend to have a copy of this book on my bookshelf for as long as I live, and I wanted to celebrate the discovery. There are certain books that I remember from my childhood and when I became a mother I went to considerable lengths to find them and purchase them. Sharing these books with my own children has been a delight. This is a book I think my girls will feel the same way about when they become mothers.
I love the way the parent's are portrayed, especially the Dad. I think Hannah's reaction to the book is particularly wonderful. I think that she can identify with the experience of needing urgently to be understood, but not yet having the words. She keeps asking for it to be read, and you gotta love that!
